Low Hanging Phruit
BEER STYLE / STATS:
New Zealand Pilsner / 5.0% ABV, 30 IBU, 3 SRM
INGREDIENTS:
100% pilsner malt (Northstar), Nectaron hops, Moutere hops, and Nelson Sauvin hops. Phantasm and a blend of Lunar Crush and our house lager strain.
DESCRIPTION:
Thiols are aromatic compounds released by certain yeasts during fermentation that create the big, bright, tropical fruit aromas that are found in many modern IPAs. By increasing the amount of these thiol precursors in the beer, you can dramatically increase the thiol production during fermentation. One way to do this is with an exciting new product called Phantasm. We decided to push these fruity thiols in a New Zealand Pilsner. We have learned how to use this Phantasm/yeast combo correctly through some trial and error, so we thought why not use it on a pilsner. This is a hop forward pilsner with some great notes of tropical fruit, citrus, and pineapple. It sounds complicated, but it's a simple and easy drinking beer that you have to try!
HISTORY:
Largely defined by the original created at Emerson’s Brewery in the mid-1990s, New Zealand Pilsner has expanded in character as the varieties of New Zealand hops have expanded in number and popularity.
