Barrel Aged English Porter w/Spices / 10% ABV, 25 IBU, 26 SRM
Maris Otter malt, Brown malt, Chocolate malt, Black Patent malt, Cara Munich III malt, Warrior hops, Kent Golding hops, English Ale yeast. Cacao, Mexican vanilla bean, cinnamon, with Chipotle, Mulato, and Pasilla Negro peppers and aged in tequila barrels.
Following up on the success of last year’s Mole Porter, we decided to brew an imperial strength version of this English style porter, with spices reminiscent of Mexican Mole sauce. Mole (or Americanized “Molé”) comes from an old Nahuati word for “mix”, or “sauce”. In addition to the basic ingredients, Chipotle peppers, cinnamon, and cacao, we also added Mexican vanilla, Mulato and Pasilla Negro peppers. For added depth, we also aged the porter in tequila barrels for 8 months. All of this comes together for a rich and complex beer that keeps you coming back for more. This mildly warming beer that is great for Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, Thanksgiving, and all through the holidays.
Originating in London around 300 years ago porters became a highly-popular, widely-exported style in the 1800s. The name is said to have been derived from its popularity with the London working class performing various load-carrying tasks of the day.
